Project Highlights:
BPG provided assistance to Currituck County in
the planning and design of approximately 3.1
miles of roadway improvements on Ocean Pearl
Road, the main north-south arterial road on the
northern Currituck Outer Banks.
The work included a coordinated effort
with EPI to identify potential areas of concern
within a 600-foot corridor for the 3.1 mile
project area.
BPG established a base line for the
project design and construction, surveyed
cross-sections for roadway designs, wetland
surveys and mapping for determining any wetland
impacts associated with the roadway improvement
project, and permit assistance.

Currituck Southern OBX Wastewater Study
Corolla Wastewater Study

Corolla, North Carolina
Project Highlights:
BPG in conjunction with Hazen & Sawyer completed
a wastewater study for the Southern Currituck
Outer Banks, including the areas of Ocean Sands,
Corolla Light, Corolla Village, Monteray Shores,
and Ocean Hill.
The Study involved the projection of wastewater
demands to build-out conditions, the
identification of wastewater treatment and
disposal methods and sites, the study of
alternative wastewater collection systems, and a
capital improvements plan and fiscal plan for a
regional wastewater solution.

Currituck County Off-Road Study Area

Location:

Project Highlights:
The Scope of Services for this project involves
an Alternative Futures Study (“study”) for the
“off-road” portion of Currituck County, North
Carolina (the area between the northern terminus
of NC Highway 12 and the Virginia state line on
the county’s coastal barrier island).
The overarching goal of this study is to develop
a series of three future growth scenarios and
evaluate the costs and benefits to the county
under each of the three scenarios.
It is intended that this effort will
guide the preparation of an area plan for this
portion of the county, which in turn, will be
incorporated into the county’s CAMA Land Use
Plan and Unified Development Ordinance (UDO).

Nags Head Multi-Use Path
Westside Multi-Use Path - Phases I-IV

Location:
Nags Head, North Carolina
Project Highlights:
This project consisted of the design &
development of a 10’ wide hard surface multi-use
path for the Town of Nags Head. The purpose of
this project was to establish a pedestrian
multi-modal path along the west side of U.S. Hwy
158 in an effort to encourage pedestrian traffic
along this route. Services rendered consisted of
design surveys to locate all existing site
features, to include underground utilities &
existing landscaping that would be affected by
this routing as well as construction staking.
The final design incorporated handicapped
accessibility improvements, safety measures,
landscaping & stabilization features, drainage
improvements in conjunction with the defined
pedestrian access way. Additional services
included proposed construction cost budgeting
that aided in the funding of the project. The
design was in accordance with NCDOT standards,
specifications, policies & procedures.

Wanchese Seafood Industrial Park is a State
Agency staffed by Department of Commerce
employees. Centrally located on the East Coast
of the United States on the South End of
historic Roanoke Island in Dare County, N.C.,
Wanchese Seafood Industrial Park enhances
business opportunities in the seafood and marine
trades. Wanchese Seafood Industrial Park, the
only one of its kind in the nation, is home port
to Dare County commercial fishing vessels,
several boatbuilding and repair shops, a marina,
and other marine-related businesses.

Project Highlights:
Jockey's Ridge State Park is a North Carolina
State Park located in Dare County. The park
covers 420 acres and includes the largest
natural sand dune system in the eastern United
States.
Services Provided:
BPG provided the following services for this

• Project Management for a major Sand
Relocation Project.
• 126,000 cubic yards of sand was moved to
enable it to re-enter
the dune migration
system.
• In addition to project management
responsibility, BPG provided
NCDENR design
plans, and solicited third party contractor
bids.

Hatteras Ferry Terminal

Project Highlights:
The Cape Hatteras Ferry Terminal is the northern
terminus of the Ocracoke - Cape Hatteras ferry
run and unless you have your own boat, the only
way to reach Ocracoke Island from Cape Hatteras
is via ferry.
Services Provided:
BPG provided the following services for this

• Design of an 8,000 gallon per day
wastewater collection,
treatment & Bioclere
modified trickling filter with low-pressure
pipe disposal system.
• System is intended to serve the ongoing
renovation and
expansion of the Cape
